The walk: "Cabane des Mulets" and "Tourtourel" summit
This walk is about 30 min drive from "La Bréole" village where our family summer tour takes place.
Easy and enjoyable for the whole family, this walk will lead you to a shepherd's house, the "Cabane des Mulets" and then to the high pasture of "La Grande Montagne" where you are likely to spot marmots!
- Distance: 8km;
- Ascent: 530m;
- Expected time: 3h30min
- Altitude at the high pasture: 1848m
- Difficulty: Moderate, suitable for families.
Recommendations: do not disturb the animals; donkeys at the hut and cows in the fields. Thanks for them!
Join "Maure" village after "Seyne" and follow the road that goes through the village. Then, the road turns into a trail; follow it up to a very sharp bend where you can park.
From there, just follow the path up to the "Cabane des Mulets" (1710m). After the hut, go south, on the left bank of the river, following a path (yellow marks) that will lead you through woods (steep start) and ravines to the high alpine pasture (1848m).
There is a "cairn" just at the foot of Tourtourel summit.
In June, July, the pasture is covered with flowers: orchids, "gentianes", trolls... just magnificent!
Very nice place for a picnic and to observe marmots.

If you feel energetic, join the Tourtourel summit at 2035m of altitude (ascent from the high pasture: 200m; 1h go and return walk).
Very steep, not recommended with small children and to people afraid of heights.
From the pasture, you can go down towards another shepherd hut but then you will have to climb back up to return!

To return, just go down the same way.
