The walk: "Tête Grosse" Summit
This walk is about 30 min drive from "La Bréole" village where our family summer tour takes place.
This loop walk will lead you at the top of "Chabanon" resort, a very local and family ski resort. You will enjoy a very peaceful walk and a great 360° view at the summit over "Digne" pre-Alps and "la Bléone" mountains.
- Distance: 15km;
- Ascent: 800m;
- Expected time: 7 to 8 hours
- Altitude "Tête Grosse" summit: 2032m
- Difficulty: Active, you need to be fit and well trained for this walk.
Recommendations:
Walk at a steady pace, bring 2 litres of water per person, not recommended with children (dangerous cliffs along the summit ridge)!
Taking the direction of Barcelonnette, join Seyne by the "Col Saint Jean" (road D900). In Seyne, follow the D7 road, direction Auzet and park at the "Col du Fanget".
Take the track to the West that goes to the "Plateau d'Iroire". Then the paths goes South; at 1700m of altitude, take West towards the Combanière pass, obvious between the two summits. Going down, you will join the shepherd hut "Les Planes". Then, walking South West, you will join a grass flat area. From there go to the "Tomples" pass and follow the marked path following the ridge up to the summit.
There, from the cross that marks the summit, enjoy the view!
To go back, follow the ridge summit above the resort towards the East.
Walk down at the limit of the forest and a rocky area (Les Ganiayes) and join a forest path that goes through the wood "Le Bois du Roi" straight to the South.
At 1700m, you will join the "Plateau d'Iroire" and cross the track taken at the beginning of the walk. Join the car park by taking the same way you came from.
